The Grilled Cheese

This week, I found myself craving grilled cheese. After packing and getting things cleaned up, I was able to make my first grilled cheese, which I would make again :)

Doing a bit of research, I chose three cheeses which I picked up at my local Meijer: sharp cheddar, muenster, and provolone. I asked for about 2 oz of each of these cheeses cut in a single block for each. Freshly shredded is what makes a grilled cheese melt evenly. The apple adds some sweetness and the honey a nice glazed crunch. Time to cook!

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz provolone, muenster, cheddar cheese

  • 2 slices of bread (I used gluten free)

  • Canola/olive oil blend

  • Honeycrisp apple (optional)

  • Honey (optional)

Directions:

  1. Grate the cheeses, mix, and set aside. Thinly slice the apple.

  2. Coat one side of both of the bread slices with oil.

  3. Place the oiled side of the bread slices on a pan over medium-low heat, add cheeses evenly to both and place the apple on top and heat for 3-5 minutes

  4. Once the cheese is nearly melted, flip one piece of bread on top of the other and add honey on top, flip and cook for about 1 minute. Flip to the other side, add honey and flip over and cook for about another minute. Remove from heat and serve.

This was my first time making a grilled cheese never growing up with eating it. I thought it was super yummy, I looked into other options like instead of honey using more cheese, seems a little too cheesy for me. I am not a fan of bacon, but I might add spinach next time for some veggie life.
